photography IMMY: ASHBY
Immy believes that beauty stems from transience and imperfection. She uses photography to explore entropy and decay, both recognising and fighting against the fragility of the world around her.
By focusing on detail, she draws out the histories of her subjects. The tension between an appreciation of the moment and the knowledge that it must pass gives her images a bittersweet air.
Immy's aesthetic is partly influenced by her interest in the Japanese concepts of mono no aware and wabi-sabi. At a deeper level, it comes from her own agricultural background: she was brought up on a working farm, where growth, change and death make up the fabric of life.
Now living in London, she still returns to her family home in Essex for much of her work and inspiration.
